Tigers Held to Six Hits In Loss to Mariners

The Tigers offense hit a new low last night as they lost a 2-1 pitcher’s duel to the Mariners.  They managed just six hits with the lone run coming on an RBI single by Clete Thomas in the third inning.  Miguel Cabrera had the lone extra base hit with a double and Placido Polanco was the only hitter with a multi-hit game.  He went two for four and he scored the lone run.  Let’s just say that Felix Hernandez did his job and it was good enough for his eleventh win.

It’s really too bad because Armando Galarraga threw his best game of the season. He gave up just one hit and four walks with three strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.  The one run that scored off of him scored after he left with one out and a man on third in the eighth.  Bobby Seay followed him and he served up the game winning run to Russ Branyan and he fell to 1-2.  Brandon Lyon also did his job and he got the final two Mariners out.

Rain is still in the forecast so we’ll see when they get this afternoon’s game in.  It’ll be Jarrod Washburn (who’s had a resurgance this year) going up against Lucas French.  The White Sox won again so that lead in the Central is still just one game so things are being set up nicely for the Tigers four game series over the weekend against Chicago.
