Jim Leyland and Bullpen Use

Here’s a solid story on Jim Leyland’s use of his bullpen.  He gets some good recommendations in former Tigers’ general manager Bill Lajoie and Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa.  Leyland talks about protecting his pitchers making sure relievers have the proper amount of rest.

Brian, why is Jose Mesa in the goddamn game? This is not second guessing. This is first guessing. He is guaranteed to blow it.

Well, Pena just blew it. There is just no excuse for this level of incompetence in the dugout. It has been a long time since Jose Mesa even resembled a good pitcher. This is ridiculous.

Nice play by Monroe in left field. Good thing we have his glove in there, you know, because Thames’ glove is so awful.

Utter garbage.

Go ahead guys, defend your genius old man. I cannot imagine being dumb enough to bring Jose Mesa onto my rostger, let alone into a game like this.

Sorry about the venom. It pisses me off when a manager who makes millions of dollars a year shows a complete contempt for logic of any kind.

Not sure Dan. I just got home but I’ve never been happy with the Jose Mesa signing. I think he’s dead weight as well.
