This was probably the most important Tiger game in over twenty years and I missed it because I had to be at work. Oh well, I’d rather they win without me watching then the alternative.
I really thought that when Curtis Granderson was stranded at third in the seventh, it would come back to haunt us. Both he and Marcus Thames had really good games and they led the way on offense.
Wow, that was great relief pitching. I’m sure everyone got nervous when Hidecki Matsui singled off of Todd Jones in the ninth but between Jones, Jamie Walker and Joel Zumaya, we got about as good of reliefing pitching at you can ask. Justin Verlander wasn’t chopped liver either. He did get into some jams and he did give up the three run shot to Johnny Damon, but he held up, gave the Tigers five plus solid innings and didn’t lose it for us.
Tomorrow will have an ailing Randy Johnson going up against Kenny Rogers. Big, big swing game. It’s an 8 pm start so I’ll get to watch this one.
great game! verlander and zumaya were awesome! they made the yankees look silly at times…GO TIGERS!!
--Then again…Verlander hardly made the Yankees look silly, he was at 100 pitches and 3 runs before finishing the 6th…a decent start but not a 7 inning 3 run quality start
--just because every yankee regular has at one time or another been ann all-star doesn’t make this the best line-up of all-time. on paper, maybe, but the game is won and lost down in the trenches where ordinary mere mortals like joe rudi or kirk gibson can for one at bat or one game or series be all-stars and guy’s like a-rod can look like doo-doo. bottom line is the tigers are going to win this series and it’s not that big of an upset.
--yankee fan…what game were you watching? verlander made the yankee hitters look bad at times. give him some credit, a rookie going into yankee stadium with that lineup! zumaya made the yankees look like deer in headlights!
--he definitely made sheffield and arod look foolish at times, but guess what, you pitch to win, not to make people look bad…
5.1 innings
3 runs
that’s decent facing this lineup…it’s not great
Zumaya’s another story…all the credit to him…let’s see how we do second time around
--You are right Yankee Fan, Verlander’s line was just decent next to what the gambler just did…

I’m a Yankee fan, but after reading your posts and comments, it’s refreshing to hear such hope as oppose to the arrogrance, hate and pessimism I typically hear from Yankees and Red Sox fans. I still think we are going to be you (and I say that as humbly as possible) but I appreciate your passion for the games and the Tigers. Good Luck.
